Fishing out of his home waters of Miami, Florida, Captain Ken Diaz has spent countless years on the back end of his skiff figuring out the patterns of bonefish, permit, and tarpon. Fly fishing in Miami and particularly fly fishing in Biscayne Bay can be extremely rewarding as the quality of fishing it offers is second to none. If fly fishing is not your thing, no worries, Captain Ken loves to spin fish and live bait as well. One of the more exciting things to watch is how bonefish takes a shrimp and makes your drag scream instantly, watching a permit hover over your crab and feel the pop in your line when it takes it, or when you feel a tarpon hit your plug unexpectedly and it starts to jump out of the water trying everything it can to pull the hook!

Biscayne Bay offers more than just silver fish where anglers can also target reef fish species such as mutton snappers, mangrove snappers, yellowtail snappers, yellowjacks, jack crevalle, groupers, and other reef dwelling species.

Captain Ken Diaz truly enjoys the disconnect between the drive down to Everglades National Park and the maze of mangrove islands, shorelines, and flats where you can always find yourself in complete solitude. For this reason, he has invested many years learning which areas are the most productive as everything in the Everglades can look “fishy.” His constant pursuit towards finding the fish has led him to multiple tournament wins out of Flamingo and continues to strive to be the best alongside his fellow guides. The beauty of flamingo is the ability to find fish in even in the toughest conditions, but when the conditions are right, it’s magical! Whether fly fishing or spin fishing, you can always find productive flats, shorelines, creeks and rivers targeting snook, redfish, tarpon or seatrout. Common occurrences in Flamingo are of rolling tarpon, tailing redfish, and laid up snook which leads to an action-packed day.

Besides the premier species, anglers can find an abundance of other species such as ladyfish, jack crevalle, mangrove snappers, and black drum to name a few. Not only the fishing is a delight but the birds you find (especially during the winter migration) along with sea turtles, manatees, and porpoises (dolphin) is what truly makes Flamingo and Everglades National Park such a special place.
